We have an exciting Head Veterinary Nurse job opportunity for our clients Veterinary Practice situated in Bathgate, West Lothian offering a salary up to £36,000 and excellent benefits package.

Working rota:

• Full time(4 or 5 days p/w), but flexible/ part time candidates are also considered
• 1 in 6 weekends
• Some inpatient checks – vetsnow cover OOHs so this is minimal

The practice is a well equipped purpose built veterinary practice that is busy and see’s a varied caseload. With a team of 5 Vets who have a wide variety of clinical interests.

As HVN you will be leading the nursing team which consists of 2 full time RVN’s, 1 part time RVN, 2 second year SVN’s, and 2 first year SVN’s. Two of the RVN’s are clinical coaches and the nursing team are encouraged to utilise their nursing skills to the full including schedule 3 procedures where appropriate.

There is a comprehensive support team including 2 Animal Care Assistants, Practice Manager, Insurance Co-ordinator and 5 receptionists.

The duties of this role include:

• Managerial and clinical work
• Expand client facing clinical aspects of nurse role such as nurse clinics.
• Effectively manage nurse rotas to maximise utilisation of individuals skills and interests.
• Assist in training of our Student Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants.
• Laisse with all roles within the practice to enable smooth running of day-to-day clinical work.
• To attend management meetings, both locally and at an area/regional level, as well as run local nurse team meetings.
• Perform routine performance reviews with all members of nursing team.
• Develop and drive hygiene practices within the surgery.
• Have a proven track record in developing client and patient care particularly improving and driving inpatient care.
• Stock control of both consumables and drugs with an ordering role.
• Management of controlled drugs.
• Effectively manage equipment maintenance and purchasing.
• Developing practice SOPs with an eye on SVN training and PSS assessments.

Minimum requirements: 

• RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse
• Eligible to work in the UK
