Leapfrog Recruitment are recruiting for a full-time, New Graduate Veterinary Surgeon for a highly reputable, independent, small animal practice situated in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
Situated only 8-miles from Bedford and within a short distance of Luton Airport!
You would be working in a modern practice, well-equipped with excellent facilities including; multiple consulting rooms, two dedicated operating theatres, separate dog/cat waiting area, large outdoor exercise paddock, on-site parking, digital x-ray, ultrasound, dedicated dental room with machine and ultrasonic descaler, isolation unit, climate controlled hospital wards, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and in-house laboratory.
The practices see a strong and interesting first opinion caseload, taking pride in maintaining good relationships with clients and patients with 15-minute consults as standard. This is a practice where you can help advise clients with their new puppy/kitten and watch them and their pet grow.

You would be working alongside an experienced team of 8 Veterinary Surgeons (including Director-owner and Clinical Director), 6 RVNs, 2 experienced Veterinary Nursing Auxiliaries, 5 Receptionists, a Practice Manager and Mia, the practice cat.
You’ll be expected to consult, perform medical workups, dentals and soft tissue surgery. We undertake some first opinion orthopaedic operations as well - all aided by our in-house laboratory, dental and digital x-ray and ultrasound (including cardiac), with a team of experienced vets and nurses for support. There is a significant amount of experience in the team, so support in any areas is available if required/desired!
Shifts follow a fixed 4 week rolling rota: 3 weeks of 3 x 09:00-19:00, 1 x 09:00-17:00, 1 x 09:00-13:00; 4th week (after w/end on call) 2 x days off (Mon & Tues), 1 x 09:00-19:00, 1 x 09:00-17:00 & 1 x 09:00-13:00. The rota allows for a good work-life balance and a set 4 week rolling rota for the year ahead, so you can plan your all-important time off and holidays well in advance as well as known consulting times/op days etc.
The practice is proud to provide their own out of hours service for registered clients so you will be part of a 1:4 rota. This means one night on call a week (with a half day off the next day) and one weekend in four on-call with the Monday and Tuesday off after it. When on call, you will triage the emergency calls and you will have a nurse on call to assist with in-patients, surgery, euthanasia and work ups. OOHs/On-call will always be supported until you are confident carrying these out on your own [but with experience on the other end of the phone ALWAYS].
